A local has brought attention to the serious dangers posed by keeping a pet locked in a car, having seen a small Schnauzer-type dog trapped in a car on Ashe Quay in Fermoy for at least four hours last Thursday morning.
“I noticed the dog around 9.30am, but I don’t know how long it had been there by that time. He was barking and at 10.30am I called the guards and gave them the registration number.”
The lady left to do some errands and when she returned at 1.30pm, the animal was still in the car in front of the Grand Hotel, but quieter now and ‘shaking’. The parking ticket on the windscreen of the car, says the witness, showed a return time of 1.37pm.
