Mitchelstown finished a disappointing 8th in the category B2 division of the Anti Litter league, a position Cllr Kay Dawson said ‘reflects poorly’ on the town.

Scoring a lowly 862.7 points out of a possible 1,000 in the final round of scoring on week three, Mitchelstown recorded the lowest marks in their category and the second lowest marks of all 25 towns competing.

“It’s very disappointing and it reflects poorly on us,” said Cllr Kay Dawson who is chairperson of AROMA, the group who spearhead the town’s Tidy Towns efforts.

“We need to try harder and start our preparations earlier in order to find a way to achieve higher marks. The reduced number of Tús workers available to us didn’t help and we need to regroup now and have a good look at things. It has to be a joint approach and done in a cohesive manner but it is do-able,” added Cllr Dawson.

The final results will be seen by many as a backward step, after Mitchelstown finished third overall in their category in the 2016 competition.
