Upwards of 1,000 hardy participants descended on Billy O’Donovan’s farm in Gortnahown, Mitchelstown last Saturday for D’hillbillies Mud Run – an event organised by Mitchelstown Lions Club that so far has helped raise almost €40,000 for the Mercy Hospital Foundation in Cork.
At face value, this is a venture that should be a hard sell, given the demands of a 12km cross country course, complete with slopes, drains, pools and man made obstacles. However, the opposite seems to be the case, with young people in particular, embracing the mud and mahem.
