Deep rot sees historic tree felled in Rathcormac

One of three historic ‘hanging trees’ in Rathcormac was felled recently, being in ‘imminent danger of collapse’ according to a spokesperson for Cork County Council.

It was revealed that the tree posed a danger to public safety due to a deep rot, which was discovered during maintenance works.

“Maintenance and annual pruning works have been carried out on the hanging trees in the past two weeks. It was discovered last Friday week, the 22nd of November that one of the three trees was rotten deep in the root system all the way up to the crown and the tree was in imminent danger of collapse.
