In association with Seachtain na Gaeilge and to mark the school’s 40th anniversary, GAA President, Jarlath Burns, paid a courtesy visit to Gaelscoil de hÍde in Fermoy on Monday.

The ‘cairpead dearg’ (red carpet) was rolled out for the Armagh native, who explained (through Irish) that his early education didn’t include ‘gaeilge’.

“I didn’t have any access to the Irish language as a young boy, I had to learn it myself later in life. You are so lucky to be educated through the medium of such a beautiful language,” he told pupils.
