Cork County Council is expected to make a decision later this month on a planning application for a 5MV solar farm development in Mohera, Castlelyons.

The application was submitted in February by Meridiem Renewables Mohera Limited, seeking to develop a solar farm comprising of approximately 19,000 photovoltaic panels on ground mounted frames within a site area of 11 hectares.

A total of nine formal objections have been submitted by local residents, as well as Castlelyons Community Council and Castlelyons Development, opposing the proposed development.

Their objections are related to concerns over pollution and contamination risks to the ground water supply, an increased risk in flooding in the area and visual impacts from local properties.
