Fermoy, which was named as the Ireland’s cleanest town for 2018 by Irish Business Against Litter has been ranked in 12th place on the leaderboard following the 2019 survey out of the 40 towns and cities in the country that are assessed. 

An Taisce, who carry out the survey for IBAL annually commented on Fermoy, stating: “A sense of community is very much in evidence in Fermoy, winner of the League last year. Clearly the Tidy Towns group is a very active one, not just with regard to litter but also in terms of awards for shop fronts and relating to items of history within the town, e.g. information notice on history of Mart Car Park.”

They mentioned especially the Town Park, Ashe Quay and Patrick Street as areas of excellence but said that the heavy littering at the recycling facility beside the Mart Car Park and also in the Library Car Park ‘brought down the overall appearance of Fermoy’.
