On Saturday last at The Pool Playground in Fermoy, family and friends of John Fitzgerald and William Hughes, gathered for the unveiling of a plaque to both men.
The 2 men were dedicated community activists and worked together for the betterment of their town. MC for the occasion was Deputy Noel McCarthy, who praised the contribution of William and John. The attractive plaque, which depicts images of the men, bears the inscription ‘This plaque was erected in appreciation for the dedication and time given by William Hughes and John Fitzgerald in providing the Cork Road playground’. It also features the names of the current Cork Road Residents’ Association officers: Mary Flynn (chairperson), Noreen Doody (treasurer), Noel McCarthy (secretary) and PRO, Tadhg O’Donovan.
