Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann, Baile Mhistéala are hosting a special concert to celebrate Saint Patrick’s weekend. This will take place on 16th March in Saint George’s Arts and Heritage Centre at 7.30pm. This will be the third annual concert hosted there since the pandemic and it is wonderful to be back to full strength again.
The concert will be opened by the Gardiner-Murphy family from Burncourt, who will perform a variety of musical selections. This will be followed by Claisceadal na gCarad, an Irish choir led by Tadhg Ó Siocháin, who will sing a variety of songs as Gaeilge. Following this, Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann, Baile Mhistéala will perform a variety of music, song and dance, with some very special surprises.
Along with the loyal musicians who have been with the group for decades, we are delighted to welcome a significant number of new people to our branch over the past year. Our local Comhaltas group is one of the oldest branches in the country, with 64 unbroken years affiliated to the national organisation.
Following the interval, the “Two Richies” (Ritchie Rea and Richie Butler) will perform a selection of music and song, and this will be followed by an invitation to all musicians present to come to the stage where all will perform together for a number of selections. In particular, we look forward to welcoming our ‘Special Friends’ to share their musical talent and join in the singing.
Spanning over seven decades in age, the performers will appeal to young and old and a great night is guaranteed at the very reasonable entrance fee of €10. Comhaltas would like to acknowledge the support and help the volunteers at Saint George’s Arts and Heritage Centre have provided, enabling us to perform in a magnificent local venue, as well as The Avondhu for their continued support in promoting our branch.
