College students left on roadside ‘nearly every second day’

As many as 30 people are being left behind at bus stops due to a lack of capacity in the early morning 245 service, particularly in Rathcormac and Watergrasshill, and even earlier on the route in Fermoy. Speaking on the issue, local councillor William O’Leary said that capacity issues on the early morning 245 runs are becoming ‘fairly untenable now for some people’.

Speaking of her experience with The Avondhu, UCC student Zoe McCarthy, living in Rathcormac, said that ‘nearly every second day’ she cannot get on the 7am UCC/MTU bus as it is full to capacity, and there can be ’15 or 16’ people left behind.

This bus, at capacity, then cannot pick up students in Watergrasshill or Glanmire, leaving people behind at every bus stop along the way. Ms McCarthy also recounted that in her opinion, last year drivers would show some leniency and allow people to stand on the bus, but not any longer.
