Sporting clubs throughout The Avondhu area welcomed the return of outdoor, non-contact sports and training on Monday under the easing of Covid-19 restrictions.

In line with an easing of restrictions in what has become known as the longest lockdown in the world, non-contact sports including golf, pitch & putt and tennis, as well as training sessions for under 18s, have joined the reopening of other national amenities including zoos and heritage sites in the first round of reopening this week.

At Mitchelstown Golf Club members were eager to get back out onto the greens, according to club member, Batt Power.

“It’s great to be back,” he said. “Members have been looking forward to this a lot, and the good weather we’ve had recently has made people even keener.”
