Dermot McAuliffe, from Castlelyons, was honoured with the overall Glanbia Quality Grain award for 2015, at the annual event held in Kilkenny on Thursday, 25th February. The farmer was one of 11 category winners recognised for the excellence of his crops.
Dermot farms 140 acres of land close to Castlelyons village on the banks of the River Bride. When asked for the secret to his success, he replied “attention to detail”.
It was this attention to detail which won Dermot the individual award for Malting Barley with a sample of grain which analysed at 16% moisture, 67.4 kph, screenings of 1.1% and protein at 10.1%.
