The tradition of Rathcormac being a GP base ended in 2020, after a medical practice in the village ceased to be operational, and calls have recently been extended for the area to be kept under review for GP cover.

Local councillor William O’Leary recently contacted the HSE regarding the matter, and a response issued noted that, following engagement with the practice which previously existed in Rathcormac, the HSE approved the deletion of the centre there.

“There has been a tradition in Rathcormac whereby in the ’60s, ’70s and ’80s, when there were just a couple hundred people in Rathcormac, that there was always two GPs. Now, the practice is closed …” Cllr O’Leary said.
