Burglars appear to have taken advantage of the hot spell in recent days to strike while homeowners are away from their properties. Four break-ins occurred to homes in Mitchelstown and Fermoy on Friday last. A quantity of jewellery was taken from a house on George’s Street, Mitchelstown between 12 noon at 1.10pm. The second burglary in Mitchelstown took place between 9.30am and 6pm at Carrigane where a quantity of tools were taken.

A house on Casement Row in Fermoy was entered on the same day, sometime between 8.30 and 11am where cash and jewellery were taken. The second break-in occurred between 4.30 and 8pm at Rathcarraig off the Pike Road. A sum of cash was also taken in that incident.

All are being investigated by Gardai.  Meanwhile they are warning cyclists to secure their bicycles when leaving them for any length of time. It follows a spate of thefts in recent days as more cyclists are out and about taking advantage of the good weather. They are also asking shop owners to be extra vigilant following a number of shoplifting reports in the past week. CCTV footage is being examined in the investigation of those incidents.
