Man charged following Mitchelstown stabbing

A man has been charged in connection with a stabbing that occurred in Mitchelstown last Saturday. Gardaí have clarified that the incident did not take place at an International Protection Accommodation Service (IPAS) centre, as was incorrectly reported online and in some media outlets.

“Contrary to some media reporting and online commentary, this incident took place in a private residence and not in an IPAS centre,” a Garda spokesperson said.

The rental property on Upper Cork Street, understood to be the residence of the individual who was injured, is occupied by a number of individuals working in the locality.
