A striking new mural now brightens the side of the former Hyland’s Bookshop premises in Mitchelstown, the work of Ukrainian artists, Dmitrii and Olena Aksiutenko.

Dmitrii and Olena fled Ukraine following the Russian invasion in 2022 and have lived in Mitchelstown for the past two years. They worked together, completing the artwork in just over three days, working tirelessly over 12 hours a day to complete the studding visual.

The mural, which depicts a young Irish girl walking through wind and rain to collect her books, was commissioned through the efforts of Claudia Matassa on behalf of Mitchelstown TidyTowns.
