Brand new ‘Fanning at Whelans’ airs on Virgin Media Two

Part one of brand new ‘Fanning at Whelans’ airs on Virgin Media Two tomorrow night (17th) at 10pm. With the luxury of live music being taken from us over the last few months, legendary radio DJ Dave Fanning will bring viewers at home the next best thing.

Fanning will host a special two-part series, featuring nine up-and-coming and established Irish acts, all of whom had big plans on the live circuit for 2020 – plans that were dashed back in March when the pandemic hit Ireland.

The series will include names such as Soda Blonde, Sorcha Richardson, Mick Flannery, Alex Gough, Somebody’s Child, Andrea Corr, Isaac Butler, The Academic and Villagers.

Fanning will also treat viewers to special guests and features with Irish legends such as Phil Lynott, U2 and Shane MacGowan to name but a few.

Speaking about the upcoming show, Dave Fanning said: “I am thrilled to be involved in such an exciting project. Music in Ireland is part of our cultural DNA and is of huge economic importance. The music and entertainment industry are a vital part of what makes this country unique and attractive.

“Not only that, but the Irish artists who are so important to the country’s health and wellbeing, should be encouraged, supported and celebrated at every opportunity, especially at a time when it is more important than ever that we support Irish talent.’’

Fanning at Whelans is proudly sponsored by Guinness. Alan McAleenan, Global Marketing Director at Diageo said: “We are proud to work with Whelans and Dave Fanning to showcase and celebrate the phenomenal musical talent we have here in Ireland.

“We have brilliant memories of many gigs in Whelans over the years, this series will bring that magic to our TV screens until we can return safely again.”
