Bobby Gardiner presented with Honorary Masters Degree in Music

Bobby Gardiner, the Burncourt traditional music maestro, has been honoured with an Honorary Masters Degree from University College Cork (UCC), in recognition of his immense contribution in the field of music.

Mr Gardiner is an internationally renowned traditional music educator, composer, lilter and performer of Irish Traditional Music on button accordion and melodeon.  

A self-taught musician, the Lisdoonvarna native was one of the first traditional musicians to take a teaching position at a third-level institution in Ireland, when he began teaching in UCC in the 1983 at the invitation of Professor Mícheál Ó Súilleabháin.
