‘Blatant wastage’ – water break left unrepaired at Kilgullane

Water flowing down the road from a break in the Kilgullane area of Glanworth.

A national water conservation order (hosepipe ban) remains in place until August 26th, however, in the Kilgullane and Johnstown area outside Glanworth, significant quantities of  water is being left to free-flow down the road.

An alleged 100,000 litres of water is being wasted daily from the Ballykenly/Johnstown, Glanworth reservoir due to a significant leak, located in the vicinity of Kilgullane cemetery.

This comes at a time when Uisce Éireann have been calling on the public to conserve water wherever possible, as supplies across the country remain depleted.

A resident of the area told The Avondhu that the affected pipe is believed to supply treated water to residences in the area, as at night when the reservoir was shut down to conserve water, the leak reduces significantly.
