Wednesday, 25th March was a historic occasion for Anglesboro National School, with the official opening of its new AstroTurf facility. Blustery conditions and a sprinkling of snow on the Galtys, didn’t prevent a large crowd from attending. A specially erected marquee protected guests from the elements. Among them was Limerick Senior hurling manager, John Kiely, Minister of State, Niall Collins and Fr. Jack O’Neill, who blessed the impressive new €260,000 amenity.

Those present were formally welcomed by principal of Anglesboro National School, Seán Kearney. Mr. Kearney thanked everyone involved in what was a considerable undertaking, observing that it was a collective effort by a small rural community, who came together in common cause for the betterment of all.

He made a special point of thanking Michelle O’Brien, Michelle Fox and Joan O’Connor for their commitment to the project. The Mullins and Childs families, together with Patrick English, were also to the fore in making the artificial pitch a reality. The backing of the late Father Kelly was also acknowledged by Mr. Kearney.
