Plans for a cemetery extension at Kilquane just outside Knockraha, have come to a halt as there is alleged ‘archaeological interest’ in the area proposed for an extension.
Council officials have outlined that a previous archaeological impact assessment carried out at the cemetery, understood to have been carried out by the Community Association, highlighted the existence of archaeological importance in the site identified for an extension.
Previously, an agreement was in place for an extension at the cemetary to provide over 300 new spaces, while land at Whitechurch had been acquired by the council to extend cemetery spaces there too.
