Proceeds from this year's ConnaBride Vintage Club Rally have been put to very good use. In Conna Community Centre last Thursday night, club chairman Patsy Roche, in the presence of fellow officers and supporters, handed over a cheque for €4,131.31 to Val Canavan from Lucan in Co Dublin who accepted on behalf of the cardiac unit of Our Lady's Children's Hospital in Crumlin.
In his address, Patsy explained how the club had been approached by local lady, Jennifer Leahy who outlined what the hospital had done for her one year old daughter, Abbie McNamara. Abbie has been a regular visitor to the hospital where she's always received an outstanding level of care. According to Patsy they were delighted to be in a position to assist the hospital.
For his part, Val explained how important the hospital was for very sick children. He went on to detail how it carries out approximately 30 major surgeries per day and how the cancer ward was presently being upgraded. While he welcomed the decision to build a new state-of-the-art children's hospital in Dublin, he said Our Lady's would continue to be very busy for many years to come. He thanked members of ConnaBride Vintage for their generosity and praised them for the work and effort they put in to their annual rally and tractor run.
Presentations were also made to Dan Gallagher who owns the field where the rally is held and to John Flynn from Ballyduff - a long time supporter of the rally, who brings along his thresher every year. Following photographs, refreshments were served and a most enjoyable evening ensued.
