Flood works funding raises further questions in Rathcormac

While funding of €265,680 was announced last week by Minister for the OPW, Kevin ‘Boxer’ Moran, for investigative works in Rathcormac to identify flood mitigation measures, the funding has raised further questions for those already impacted by flooding, who have repeatedly been calling for measures to ensure their premises are not subject to flood devastation once again.

The funding was made available through the OPW’s revised Minor Flood Mitigation Works and Coastal Protection Scheme and sees funding for Rathcormac being put towards surveying, ground investigation works, hydrological/hydraulic modelling and an options feasibility report. 

A spokesperson for Rathcormac Flood Group raised concerns in relation to what further studies may mean for the village, as such investigations and studies were already carried out in regard to the OPW’s CFRAM scheme some years ago. The village was one of several in east Cork that experienced severe flooding following Storm Babet in 2023.
