The public is invited to Tea Talk & Tunes – a free Heritage Week event – taking place at St Carthage’s Cathedral, Lismore, on Saturday, 22nd August from 11am to 4pm.
Inspired by this year’s National Heritage Week theme, Heritage at Risk, the event will explore the importance of protecting and celebrating the cathedral’s built, cultural and natural heritage for future generations. Coinciding with Wild Child Day, families are especially encouraged to discover the wildlife that thrives within the historic cathedral grounds.
The day offers an opportunity to experience one of Ireland’s most significant medieval cathedrals through music, history and community. Visitors can enjoy guided tours with the Dean, live music by local musicians and an official opening at 12pm with invited guests.
Children can take part in a heritage and wildlife trail, discovering woodlice, beetles, birds, mosses, lichens and other species that make historic churchyards valuable habitats for biodiversity. The trail encourages careful observation through a simple conservation message: Draw it, don’t pick it. Look, don’t lift it. Leave no trace.
Tea and homemade cake will be available throughout the day, with a suggested donation of €5 in support of the Cathedral Restoration Fund.
