Circol ELT Farm Tyre Take-Back Initiative

Farmers in the region are being encouraged to take part in a new national Farm Tyre Take-Back Day, offering a low-cost and environmentally responsible way to clear old tyres from their yards.

The first event will be held at Crossmore Tyre Recycling, Kildorrery, from Thursday 20th to Saturday, 22nd November, 2025, and is being organised by Circol ELT, Ireland’s tyre compliance scheme.

Under the initiative, farmers can bring up to four tonnes of farm-use tyres at a subsidised rate of €50 per tonne, with any extra tonnage charged at €120 per tonne. The tyres will then be processed for recycling, helping to use waste tyres as a resource for new products such as rubber matting and as a fossil fuel replacement.

“This programme gives farmers a fair, practical and affordable way to deal with tyres that have built up over the years,” said Bill Collins, CEO of Circol ELT. “We want to make it easy for farmers to manage this waste safely while achieving the best environmental outcome.”

To take part, farmers must register in advance at https://circolelt.ie/waste-tyres/farm-tyre-bring-days/ and will need a herd number and an estimate of the amount they plan to bring. Once registered, they’ll receive a confirmed time slot for delivery.

Tyres must be clean, dry and free of debris or rims, and the service is open to farmers only.
