First models of the New Kia EV6 have landed in Ireland. The new EV6 is an enhanced facelift of the first EV model based on the brand’s industry-changing E-GMP (Electric-Global Modular Platform).
The significantly revised EV6 features a refreshed exterior design, with striking and dynamic aesthetics, improved battery performance and a broader range of convenience features. Powered by a new 84kWh fourth-generation battery which is 8.5% bigger than the previous generation, EV6 boasts an extended range of up to 582km.
Since its launch in August 2021, the EV6 has gained popularity for its modern design and advanced technology, achieving over 3,000 sales in Ireland since its launch. Notably, the EV6 made history as the first Korean car to win the European Car of the Year title in 2022, winning Irish Car of the Year in the same year.
On the outside, the new EV6 showcases a fresh new look by incorporating sleek daytime running lights (DRLs) featuring Kia’s Star Map lighting signature for a futuristic and sporty look. The overall aesthetics are further enhanced by the flowing character line that seamlessly connects the hood to the lower section of the vehicle, as well as the captivating wing-shaped bumper design, which adds an additional element of dynamism.
At the rear, the combination lamps are enhanced with Star Map lighting technology, visually amplifying the vehicle’s sense of width and appearance. In terms of colours, Wolf Grey metallic is now also available on EV6 which is a popular choice for other models in the Kia range.
On the inside, the new EV6’s interior features sleek design elements that illustrate its luxurious and modern ambience. The panoramic curved display combines sophisticated design with a spacious feel. The new ambient lighting accentuates the horizontal shaping of the updated interior for an enhanced feel.
The EV6 also introduces a new steering wheel and dash pad design while the wireless phone charging pad now charges at 15W for quicker charging and features wireless Android Auto/Apple CarPlay as standard.
In terms of technology, Kia has equipped the new EV6 with a new fourth-generation battery. Thanks to its higher energy density, the capacity has increased from 77.4kWh to 84kWh. This, in turn, translates into a higher range, with the vehicle now capable of up to 582km (WLTP) on a single charge.
With the cutting-edge 800V technology and a peak charging performance of 260kW (+9% compared to previous EV6), the battery can be recharged from 10-80% in 18 minutes and customers can gain up to 343km in just 15 minutes. For the same time spent charging, the new EV6’s larger battery adds more range than its predecessor, boosting customer convenience. The improvement comes from the enhanced conductivity of battery cells, which improves the temperature management and thermal distribution while charging.
The new EV6 also features Kia’s next-generation infotainment system and connected car Navigation Cockpit (ccNC), with expanded OTA software updates and upgrades. To further refine driving comfort, the new EV6 features upgraded frequency selective suspension dampers to deliver improved stability on the uneven surfaces. Kia has also focused on reducing motor noise by enhancing the rear motor sound insulation to improve overall refinement and the driving experience.
The Irish model lineup consists of Earth and GT-line specifications, both coming with the 84kWh battery as standard. In terms of specification the Earth model comes well equipped with 19” alloys, LED headlamps and taillights, vegan leather seats, heated front seats and steering wheel, power adjustable front memory seats, dual 12.3” infotainment screens, front and rear parking sensors, reversing camera, smart powered tailgate, ambient lighting, privacy glass, adaptive smart cruise control, blind-spot collision avoidance, highway driving assist, lane follow assist, and high beam assist. The range topping GT-line then adds exterior and interior GT-line styling, 20” alloys, Intelligent adaptive LED headlights, glass sunroof, heated rear seats and highway driving assist 2 featuring lane change function.
