Reports have resurfaced in Fermoy of individuals walking restricted breeds off-leash in the town.
It is understood that an individual was recently witnessed walking a restricted breed in the St Colman’s Sports Complex off-leash and when confronted, refused to leash the dog.
Locals claim that it is not the first time that dogs have been walked off-leash on the popular walkway and elsewhere within the town. One individual appealed for dog owners to ensure that dogs are kept on a leash when being walked publicly, citing the difficulties those with a fear of dogs face when encountering a dog left loose.
“Some people are terrified of dogs, and the danger when that person is a child or a young teen, they will actually run out onto the street to avoid a dog when they are that scared,” the individual said.
