Chimneys not forbidden by Cork County Council

Cork County Council made it clear this week that they do not have a planning policy against the installation of chimneys in a house, when discussing the use of fossil fuel heating and power cuts following Storm Éowyn.

In recent times, and particularly in the aftermath of storms and snow, there has been much rhetoric about a return to ‘common sense’ planning policies, and unsubstantiated claims from politicians that planning authorities are by-the-by ‘forcing’ people to only use sustainable or green energy heating systems.

Recently, MEP Michael McNamara said that people with ‘state of the art electric-powered heating systems’ had ben left ‘shivering’ when their electricity went, blaming the ‘so-called ‘green agenda’’.

However, and in Cork at least, the council have no ‘policy presumption against the provision of chimneys in new build houses’ …
