Big freeze continues across the region

As weather warnings continue to issue and low temperatures the norm across the region, many higher locations and more exposed are still snowed in after Sunday’s flurry, with hopes high for an end to the cold snap come Friday.

Monday saw several schools close their doors, with those in Fermoy and Mitchelstown delaying their return following the Chrstmas holidays. Some schools did reopen on Tuesday, advising pupils and staff to only travel if safe to do so, however, not all school transport had resumed at that point.

At the time of going to print, all secondary schools in Fermoy and Mitchelstown had advised that they would not reopen until Friday, due to weather conditions, while several primary schools also remained closed Wednesday, with further updates to follow.
