Family, neighbours and Heather Smith’s wide circle of friends gathered in Adair Hall, Fermoy last Saturday evening to launch ‘The Labbacallee Coins’ – a retired teacher, Heather dedicated the book to all her former pupils.
‘The Labbacallee Coins’ draws on a variety of themes: archaeology, the environment, Irish myths, ancient civilisations, herbalism, astronomy, mathematics, ecology and education. The Labbacallee megalithic tomb, between Fermoy and Glanworth, plays a central role, as does the character of Dutch born Sou Winkelhaak, who faces a variety of challenges, adapting to his new surroundings in Ireland.
Topics such as assimilation, bullying and mental health are also dealt with.
