A motorcyclist was arrested over the weekend after Gardaí observed the driver speeding on the M8 near Fermoy.
Gardaí noted that the motorcyclist was travelling at speeds of 225 kilometres per hour.
“A collision at this speed would result in serious injury or death. You never know what hazards lie ahead,” a Garda spokesperson said.
The driver was arrested and charged with Dangerous Driving, to appear before Fermoy District Court.
“They now face a fine up to €5,000 and/or imprisonment for up to 6 months and disqualification from driving for two years. Our message is simple: Arrive alive,” the Garda spokesperson added.
COLLISION
Fire Brigade crews from Ballyvolane and Headquarters and An Garda Síochana attended an incident on the M8 on Saturday. The incident was a single-vehicle collision involving a motorcycle.
Gardaí and emergency services attended the scene of a traffic collision Northbound on the M8 between Junction 18, Glanmire, and Junction 19, Watergrasshill at approximately 12.15pm.
According to a Garda spokesperson, no injuries were reported following the collision.
