Many community councils around the country will cease to operate after Covid-19 as the toll of repeat lockdowns has destroyed their income, according to a leading Mitchelstown activist.
Sean Finn, of Mitchelstown Community Council, said that such is the long-term impact of the crisis, that many of those associated with similar groups will not continue.
Sean wished to reassure the people of Mitchelstown that the local group will continue and have effectively ‘mothballed’ Forrest Hall until it is allowed to reopen.
“We have been totally closed down, our income has been strongly depleted. We owe €100,000 on the building but with the help of our charity bank, Clann Credo, we have been able to sustain that debt.
