Many think it’s just a matter of shouting the order ‘Lights, camera, action’ and hey presto, the film or the races or the match suddenly appears on our TV screen.
The reality is far different as John Arnold found out last Sunday when he crewed with TVM in Croke Park.
“Last Sunday was my first time ever working at an All-Ireland hurling final. I joined the 80 plus crew of TVM – Television Mobiles – for the day at GAA Headquarters to provide worldwide coverage of the Joe McDonagh Cup final and the All-Ireland senior hurling final,” John told The Avondhu.
“For the hurlers of Antrim, Kerry, Limerick and Waterford it was a strange setting – playing in an empty stadium.
“For the TVM workers, crowd or no crowd, ’twas all the one as the task of providing top class footage on hurling’s biggest day went ahead regardless of whether Croke Park was empty or full to its 83,000 capacity”.
