A Mitchelstown mental health advocate has received an anonymous donation to help people get counselling to assist them through a crisis. 

Carmel O’Gorman, who has battled depression herself for three decades, works now as part of the Mitchelstown Silver Lining Support Group. 

During the summer, she spoke to The Avondhu newspaper about her efforts to bring hope to sufferers. It was that article that provoked the anonymous donation, which will be lodged with Ger Sheehan, a counsellor in New Square, to provide help to clients. 

“I received a letter signed, a former Mitchelstown resident. She said in the letter that she was privileged to be able to access counselling and pay for it. She donated €150 to help someone through a crisis…”
