The Avondhu, in its editorial last week suggested that there just may be a few takers out there who would make the upkeep of the old cemetery at Kilcrumper their hobby. We are therefore delighted this week to be able to announce that it is the intention of a group of local people to set up an organisation to specifically look after the long-term upkeep and restoration of the old graveyard.
"As there has been a lot of complaints lately in the media about the upkeep of the old graveyard, we thought that as the council cannot manage, we might be able to assist with the upkeep," John Fenton, one of those behind the initiative said this week.
"The idea would be to have an organisation that would be run with a proper committee that would organise the upkeep of the graveyard. They would also be fundraising so that improvements could be made and that long term, the graveyard would be cared for and be a nice place for people to visit.
