Waterford City & County Council has requested the public’s assistance in tackling the growing problem of Japanese knotweed in the county, as they continue to spray the weed and prepare a dedicated budget to address the issue going forward.
The council are in the process of drawing up a map of known sites affected by Japanese knotweed, and have called on the public to inform them of any area that may not yet be on their list of sites to spray.
At this week’s meeting of Dungarvan/Lismore Municipal Authority, Cllr Declan Doocey commented: “Lately I’ve seen a lot of remedial work and a lot of spraying but there are some sites that haven’t been touched yet, maybe there are unidentified. Rather than people being unaware that a place is on a map, it would be a big help to us if we knew the areas that are contaminated.”
