A native of Castletownroche, Thomas Hunter would rise from humble beginnings to play a pivotal role in the 1916 Rising. A determined nationalist, he threw himself enthusiastically into a variety of cultural pursuits which in turn led him to join the Irish Volunteers. He embedded himself further in revolutionary politics by being inducted into the radical and secretive society, the Irish Republican Brotherhood (I.R.B.)
