Plans for this year's Charleville Agricultural Show, which will take place on June 29-30, have been underway since October of last year to make sure that everything is in place for the big weekend and there was a sneak preview about what to expect at the recent launch in Charleville Golf Club.

Last year, the showground was upgraded with new roadways and the number of new sections is increasing year on year - making the Charleville Show the biggest two day show in the country. When the show first started in 1979, it cost €22,000 to run it, but last year the running cost was €180,000, showing how much the show has grown and how much the committee are investing in it each year.

This year's show includes some of the country's leading dairy and beef herds as exhibitors, with some of the country's top class horse riders taking part in the show jumping section.

Organisers said that the show would never be possible without the support of their sponsors and this year's major sponsor is Kerry Agribusiness.

Over the coming weeks, the tented village will be erected and excitement will build towards the huge event in June, as the 45 acres of land are prepared for the multitude of events and activities. Some of the highlights include the All Ireland semi-final of the Macra na Feirme FBD Farm Skills on Sunday, a display of products from Junior Dragon's Den (including a hurley bag created by students from Kilmallock), timber sports, a vintage section and of course the dairy, beef, sheep, horse and pony section.

A new invention by three students in Pallaskenry will also be featured, as the 'cow tail lifter' will be on display. This is an invention which lifts the cow's tail in a V-shaped holder, with adjustable height and length and with the device being portable and user friendly, it saves time, money and keeps farmers safe from the otherwise unpredictable movements of a cow's tail!

There will also be delicious baking to be sampled, arts, crafts and needlework, old time crafts such as wood turning, weaving and stone carving, as well as the baby show and pets corner. For the little ones, there will also be classes in crafts, an art competition, handwriting competition as well as children's amusements across both days.
