The skyline of Mitchelstown continues to change as the months go by, with the rooftops of new houses at the old Presentation Convent site now clearly visible to anyone passing by.
Within, the houses that back on the Presentation Secondary School are taking shape, while an extension to the Convent that was built some 50 or 60 years ago has been demolished.
The Avondhu met with developer Gerry O’Sullivan onsite on Tuesday morning, who confirmed that the intention is that the shell of the convent building will be retained for the six apartments that are to be built within the original walls.
Saying that building was on track, Mr O’Sullivan acknowledged the bottleneck that is created by the only approach to the site on Convent Hill, but said they had received no complaints.
An extension of duration on the planning permission for the 32 units that are promised has been sought in the last week. Planning was originally granted for the development in January 2018 and the intention is to have some of the buildings on the market by the end of the year.
