A driver safety course undertaken in a simulator was described by students as being very real and life-like, as well as helping them to apply and understand the elements in the theory test. The sixth year Leaving Certificate Applied students from Scoil Pol in Kilfinane recently took this course, with one student saying that it opened their eyes to the potential difficulties and dangers that someone could encounter when driving.

The course brought the students through road safety and good driving practice using modern computer technology, to digitally replicate a driving experience. It allowed the students to experience a very authentic driving experience, without the added anxiety of being out on the road.

Each student received a report on their driving abilities and also a certificate on completion of the course. Generally, it was very positively received by the students, who found that it was a very helpful and practical aid that will assist them on their journey as they learn to drive.
