Recognition was given to the outstanding achievements of the young people in Mitchelstown and the surrounding areas at the Tesco Garda Youth Achievement Awards this week.
Held in the Firgrove Hotel on Tuesday night, the awards, unique to Mitchelstown, paid tribute not only to the winners, but to all the youths involved. Over 240 nominees were presented with a certificate at the event.
The awards, organised by Tesco community champion Liz Downes and community garda John Hennessy, is now in its sixth year.
Ms Downes said this year they received the largest number of entries ever and the standard of nominees was very high.
“We started here six years ago with 29 nominations and we now have over 240. The standard was very high and the judges’ decision was very hard. Everyone is going to get a certificate that will look very good on their CV in years to come,” she added.
