The XL shop on Emmet Street in Fermoy closed its doors on Monday evening. The property is owned by BWG Foods who run other popular stores such as Spar, Mace and Londis.

While unable to comment on the current situation, it is understood that BWG hope to have the store reopened, under new management, in a short period of time.

Noel McCarthy, who runs an off-licence next door to the XL shop, said the absence of the shop, even for only a short time, will be felt.

“There are a lot of other businesses up there, including schools as well as homes, which would rely on the shop so it’s important to see it reopen again before too long,” he said.
