Five speed ramps are to be installed in Conna to allay local concerns over health and safety issues caused by speeding vehicles in the village.

The locations of the five ramps have been marked out, and Chairperson of Conna Community Council Pat Lee said the work is expected completed within the next six weeks.

A deputation on the need for speed ramps was brought to Cork County Council last year by Conna Community Council through Cllr Noel McCarthy, who this week welcomed the provision of the ramps in the village.

“There were three people in the deputation, and it was led on that occasion by William Kearney. They brought in varying issues from the community council, and one of these was the amount of heavy-goods vehicles coming through the village.

“They really felt that speed ramps were necessary and I fully supported them on that. Brendan O’Gorman, following what he has done in Strawhall, Clondulane and Castlelyons before that, has seen the need for speed ramps in this village as well and I welcome that decision.

“It’s a busy route; a lot of the timber lorries use it. I’m delighted that the work is being done, it’s a health and safety issue and no doubt it will be of great benefit to the people of Conna,” said Cllr McCarthy.
