Irish Water have confirmed that wastewater was transported in recent weeks from Kilworth Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) to the plant in Mitchelstown.

The water services company confirmed that, “due to operational issues at Kilworth, wastewater was recently tankered from Kilworth Wastewater Treatment Plant to Mitchelstown WWT Plant over a period of about 1 week.”

The Avondhu was made aware of allegations that wastewater had been transported to the WWTP in Mitchelstown from a nearby village over the last weekend in September.

While Irish Water confirmed that the initial allegations and location were incorrect, they did however confirm on Wednesday that wastewater was transported from Kilworth to the plant in the town.
