Members of the public who are experiencing symptoms of the flu are being urged by several Cork hospitals to contact their local GP prior to attending the Emergency Department.
High numbers of patients who are presenting in Cork University Hospital, Mercy University Hospital and Mallow General Hospital with the flu have increased pressure on the Emergency Departments in recent days.
In order to limit the spread of influenza, both hospitals have put strict visiting restrictions in place.
It is recommended that anyone planning on visiting family or friends should contact the relevant hospital before attending.
