Contributor Angela Osborne who gave us an insight into Larry Gogan’s private life in The Avondhu Christmas publication ‘By The Fireside’ could not have foreseen the death on Tuesday of the much loved and legendary deejay at the age of 85 as her article was written many months ago.

‘Hi there popsters’ was for years a catchphrase for Larry who worked with RTÉ for over 50 years, and became best known for ‘The Golden Hour’ and his very popular ‘Just A Minute Quiz’.

The first band Larry Gogan played on 2FM was the Boomtown Rats and he remained a strong supporter of Irish music over the years, winning many awards from the music and broadcasting industries.

RTÉ’s Director General Dee Forbes described him as ‘a legend’ and ‘a genuine national institution’.

Predeceased by his wife, Florrie, he is survived by his five children.
