“Very upsetting” – shortages force restaurant to close sit-down offering

Rising costs and staff shortages have been well documented for the last six months, but the effects will be felt locally in a big way this week as Johnny O’Mahony’s restaurant in Watergrasshill has announced that it will be closing its sit-down portion of the business – though not for lack of trade.

Mr Mahony spoke to The Avondhu about his business decision and while the busy takeaway will remain open as usual, staff shortages are the biggest issue he faces.

Allied to this, are the hike in energy bills which have more than trebled, placing a squeeze on business, with a recent 56 day ESB bill coming in at close to €20,000.
