A spate of vandalism in Lui na Greine estate in Mitchelstown is making the entrance look like one into a ghetto, according to one concerned resident.

The resident, who did not wish to be named, claimed that a number of young people were vandalising the entrance to the estate, by taking pieces off the walls and this week, the bark was stripped off a young tree.

"It was a beautiful tree, but the bark was stripped down and it will die now," he said.

He added that this kind of damage gives the estate a bad image and wouldn't make people want to live there, and he urged parents to be vigilant about what their children are doing, in case they are the ones behind these activities.

"The entrance looks like a ghetto, it makes the estate look absolutely terrible. We have asked them to stop, but it seems to be the same group all the time," the resident said, adding that it was infuriating to see young people doing this damage just for the sake of it.
