
Cork County Council wishes to advise the public of significant night-time traffic restrictions on the N20 as an Exceptional Abnormal Load (EAL) is transported under Garda escort from Limerick to Ballyhea, and onward to Ballyroe Solar Farm.
These movements will take place across two nights to minimise disruption, with road closures and temporary diversions in place.
Cork County Council advises motorists to allow additional time for journeys, follow all diversion signage, and heed Garda instructions during these movements.
“We appreciate the public’s cooperation as this essential transport operation is carried out safely,” a spokesperson said.
NIGHT 1
An exceptional abnormal load, consisting of a grid transformer, will be transported from Limerick Docks to N20 Ballyhea (Lidl Distribution Centre) under Garda escort on Saturday 14th February, 8pm to Sunday 15th February, 7am
The route will be the N20 Limerick City via N20 thru N20 Charleville to N20 Ballyhea (Lidl Distribution Centre)
Road closures will be in place on the N20 from Croom to the Limerick/Cork Boundary (N20).
DIVERSION ROUTES
From Limerick: N20 Croom via R516 to Bruff, via R512 to Kilmallock, via R515 to N20 Charleville. From Charleville: N20 Charleville via R515 to Kilmallock, via R512 to Bruff, via R516 to N20 Croom.
TRAFFIC IMPACT NIGHT 1
The traffic impact on N20 in County Cork (Limerick border thru Charleville to Ballyhea) will be as follows: the N20 remains open to local traffic. Delays are expected due to the slow-moving EAL convoy travelling southbound N20 under Garda escort. The convoy is expected to reach the Charleville area between approximately midnight and 3am.
NIGHT 2
The EAL Grid Transformer will be then transported from N20 Ballyhea (Lidl Distribution Centre) to Ballyroe Solar Farm, under Garda escort from 8pm on Sunday, 15th February to 5am on Monday, 16th February.
The N20 will remain open to traffic.
On the N20 Ballyhea area, delays expected between approximately 10pm and 1am as the slow-moving EAL convoy proceeds southbound on the N20 under Garda escort.
A road closure will take place on the L5530 at Ballyhea. Diversion routes will be fully signposted and local access will be maintained.
TRAFFIC IMPACT NIGHT 2
On the L5529 – delays are expected due to the passage of the EAL convoy.
