Two students from Conna National School were recently feted, having achieved notable national successes. The pupils, Hope Leahy Dingivan and Adam O'Brien, received presentations at the school in the presence of family and friends.

DEAR GRACE

12-year-old Hope Leahy Dingivan was presented with her prize by the Grace Nolan Foundation, for her winning story which has been included in Volume 11 of the 'Dear Grace' book. Don O'Donovan, a family friend of the Nolan's, presented Hope with her award. While the school were presented with a complete set of 'Dear Grace' books.

Principal Michael Mulcahy pointed out that Hope is not just good at writing, she's also a talented singer and camogie player. Her father Dennis, nan Denise, aunt Theresa, friends and neighbours were present on the day, with Hope's SNA in Junior Infants, Valerie Keane, even dropping in to congratulate her.

The school had a winner in the 'Dear Grace' competition last year too - Naomh Lomasney, who has since left to go to secondary school. Students Katie Kearney and Ellen Byrne were other former winners, while some other students had extracts from their letters included in previous books.

ALL-IRELAND MEDALIST

The second student being lauded was 12-year-old Adam O'Brien who, like Hope, is a 6th class pupil at Conna NS. Adam, who boxes with St John's Boxing Club in Fermoy, won an All-Ireland title in the National Stadium at the end of April.

Adam brought his medal to school, to show the pupils and he was duly congratulated by delighted staff and pupils. "It's the first time we've had an All-Ireland boxer in the school," Mr Mulcahy pointed out.

Celebrations were rounded off on the day with an afternoon party.
